6 Questions With… Josh Weiss, CEO of Syncron

In this new series, we’re getting to know the leaders shaping Syncron’s future —in their own words.

First up is our CEO, Josh Weiss, who joined Syncron earlier this year. Josh shares what home means to him, the superpower he’s discovered in our team, and why the months ahead are some of the most exciting in our journey.

1. Where do you call home — and what does that mean to you?

I call Cincinnati, Ohio my home. Having moved several times over the past 20+ years and traveled around the world, I can say this answer has changed over time. As I’ve grown older and lost people in my life, “home” is now wherever my family is.

A couple of songs resonate strongly with my journey—Homeward Bound by Simon & Garfunkel and Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros.

There’s also a unique hometown pride in Cincinnati. It’s the only place I’ve lived where, when you meet someone new, they’ll ask what high school you went to before they ask about college, career, or anything else. It’s usually tied to knowing someone who knows someone (and often to football rivalries!) as a first connection point.

2. You’ve been at Syncron for a few months now — what’s stood out to you most so far?

By far, it’s the quality of our people. I’ve always believed success comes when you strike the right balance of deep industry domain knowledge—a real understanding of our customers and the process areas we serve—with strong technology expertise.

It’s not something you can easily measure, but when you see it, you know. I heard this referred to as our “superpower” during my very first in-person interactions at a team offsite, and since then, I’ve seen it confirmed by customers, partners, and colleagues alike. I know it’s true.

3. What excites you most about Syncron’s opportunity ahead?

Being part of the journey and taking us to the levels I know we can reach. Every business has a journey, and ours is far from over.

The next 12–18 months are critical for many reasons, but I can already see us moving into what I call “rapid growth expansion” where we’re firing on all cylinders, seeing a snowball effect of positive outcomes in our core businesses, which enables us to expand into new markets, new solutions, and an even bigger Syncron family in the coming years. And then we repeat. This is the fun phase for me personally, with much more to come.

4. What’s something you’ve learned — or re-learned — since stepping into the CEO role?

Don’t assume you know the answer, even if you’ve faced something similar before. Especially with long-standing issues, there are many factors to consider; our history, our people (customers and internally), our product maturity, external market factors, cultural elements, and more.

You need to understand all aspects before jumping in with a solution and bring people along with you on the journey. And always remember Einstein’s definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

5. What’s one moment in your career you’re especially proud of and why?

For me, the proudest moments are when I’ve seen peers, mentees, colleagues, and customers grow and often surpass my expectations.

I’ve lost count of the times someone has taken a business, an idea, or a strategy further than I thought possible, or in a direction I hadn’t even considered at the start. Knowing when to step back and let people run with something is a valuable lesson tied to that pride.

6. Tell us something about yourself we wouldn’t find on your CV.

I have too many hobbies and interests, and not enough time for them all! I’m curious by nature, love to read, and enjoy new experiences. I believe in Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000-hour mastery principle, but my challenge is wanting to achieve mastery in too many different things—a bit of a Renaissance mindset.

Right now, my priorities are family and work, but when I can, I like to be outdoors and active. So, if we ever have the chance, let’s take a walk around a city and learn something together over a sit-down dinner. 😉
