The process driven approach is dynamic based on the database driven architecture that stores and uses patterns described by the Business Process Workbench to execute the business process. A change in the process flow will have instant impact without any coding. A state-of-the-art service repository contains pre-defined business rules and objects; the building blocks required to efficiently construct business processes without programming. The Business Process Engine, triggered by an incoming message, alarm or schedule executes the micro flows synchronously, typically ending up routing a message or alert to a user or application according to the rules and constraints in the process definition.
The rule engine within the Business Process Engine executes and evaluates the consistency, integrity and constraints rules applied to the process definition. It monitors the deadlines set for inactivity alerts in the process definition and initiates additional events according to timers in the definition. Furthermore, the rule engine logs and holds the state of each process instance.
